Stanford Pivotal Response Training (PRT) Educational Workshop

January 25 @ 9:00 am - January 29 @ 3:00 pm

4-day course for parents of young children (2-5 years old) with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

The program focuses on communication skills and is appropriate for families of children who have some verbal words, but do not yet use full sentences. This workshop is based on our clinical and research experience and is designed to provide education and training on PRT components. We will meet in small groups of approximately four families. The workshop will be individualized so that communicative behaviors of children will be targeted. The following general areas will be addressed:
-How to implement the PRT motivational components
-Expanding the functions of communication through question-asking
-Understanding fidelity of implementation
-Improving socialization in children with ASD
-Procedures for decreasing disruptive or problem behaviors

This 4-day workshop is designed to teach parents how to correctly implement the motivational components of PRT to improve communication in their children.

Lectures will be given the first day and videos will be reviewed. During the seconds and third days, each parent will have an opportunity to work with a child for hands-on training and feedback during a two-hour session. Parents will also view other attendees working with a child. On the fourth day, we will review goals and provide recommendations for further practice. Following the course, you will be provided with materials summarizing the PRT strategies presented.
